How to choose a mattress protector?

Choosing a comforter, finding the right pillow: just like your bed linen, your bedding also deserves a lot of attention. And if we often forget it, the mattress protector remains one of the essentials of your home. Here's how to equip yourself, without making a mistake!

WHY A MATTRESS PROTECTOR?

The mattress protector has two main functions: on the one hand, it prevents the development of odors, bacteria and microbes; on the other hand, it prolongs the life of your mattress by preventing stains.

WHY DO WE SWEAT AT NIGHT?

On average, the body can release almost a liter of sweat per night, for various reasons:

- Stress: it influences the proper functioning of our body and results in irregular sleep, which can cause significant sweating and night sweats.

- A room that is too hot or not hot enough: our body is then obliged to redouble its efforts to maintain its temperature around 37°C, and therefore it sweats in both situations.

- Poorly fitting pajamas: pajamas that are too warm or synthetic pajamas encourage sweating at night.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT MATERIALS OF THE MATTRESS PROTECTOR?

Essix offers two types of mattress protectors to suit your needs: the fleece mattress protector and the coated fleece mattress protector. All Essix mattress protectors are made in France:

- The Essix QUIETUDE coated fleece mattress protector is made of brushed cotton on the underside and polyurethane coating on the top of the mattress protector. This coating has the advantage of being waterproof but not squeaky: the coated fleece mattress protector is therefore very comfortable and breathable, while being very hygienic and protecting your mattress perfectly from excessive perspiration or leaks. It is a mattress protector in fitted sheet format with a 30 cm cap and a weight of 240gr/m².

- The SERENITE 220g fleece mattress protector from Essix is a 100% cotton fleece mattress protector, brushed on both sides. Unlike the coated fleece mattress protector, it is not waterproof but it absorbs any leaks or perspiration. It is more breathable than a coated mattress protector and will be less hot in summer, it is comfortable and hygienic. This model of mattress protector is in fitted sheet format with a 30 cm cap and a weight of 220gr/m².

- The Essix REFUGE 400g fleece mattress protector has the same properties as the Essix Serenity fleece model, but it has a higher grammage, at 400gr/m², which allows it to be even more absorbent for those who sweat a lot but do not wish to choose the waterproof coated fleece mattress protector.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE SIZE OF YOUR MATTRESS PROTECTOR?

The size of the mattress protector is the size of the mattress itself: you must measure the width, length and height of the mattress. The standard French mattress protector sizes are 80x200, 90x190 or 90x200, 140x190 or 140x200, 160x200, 180x200 and 200x200. They are all offered in the 3 models of Essix mattress protectors in fleece or coated fleece.

Essix also offers mattress protectors with lift-up heads and feet that will adapt to 2x80x200 cm or 2x90x200 cm articulated beds.

The height of the mattress determines the height of the cup: at Essix, our standard is a 30 cm cup that will fit the vast majority of mattresses. We also offer some models with a 40 cm cup for very thick mattresses or mattresses on which you have added a mattress topper.

If your mattress does not have a standard size, you can contact our customer service to ask for a quote for a custom-made mattress protector, indicating the length, width, height of the cup and the model you have chosen.
